Haiku Poems

Ice

The slippery cold ice
People watch as we spin
Gliding to a stop.

Dog

Running from the kids
Jumping over the fence
Wait to take a rest.

The kitchen

The kitchen smells good
My stomach starts to grumble
I wait for the food.

Sketch

I see it all there
I begin to draw my sketch
I finish in tome.

Tree

The trees are so large
They dominate the forest
The smell is so fresh.

Friends

My friends talk so mutch
On the weekends they meet up
and have a great time.

Puns

Bob was a very musical kid until he had to go to hospital and have one of his organs removed, after that he lost interest.

The girl calls out ‘my new apple isn’t working’, her mother replies ‘try using the computer’.

Metaphore poetry

Bird

My friend is a little blue bird,
She talks too much and likes to whisper secrets.
She sings using all her voice,
My friend is funny,
She has a comedic streak
And like a bird she can move really quickly.

Dove

My aunty is a dove,
So white with pureness and peace,
She flies amongst us making laughter,
And she uses her wings to protect us,
My aunty is a dove.

Simile poems

This school

This school is like a crowded zoo,
There are students everywhere,
Each room is like a separate world
Where no one is giving a care,

The oval is like a circus ground,
Where anything lost cannot be found

The teachers are like animal trainers,
Trying to keep us under control,
They teach us how to do new tricks,
And we teach them to live like a kid.

Mountain

The snow is like blotched cotton wool,
Spread across the crooked rocks.
The plants are like spiky echidnas,
Like a rainforest as we walk,
The air is like a chilled icy-pole
Freshly taken from the freezer,
And the mountain is like nothing I’ve seen before.

Limericks

Sam
There once was a cat called Sam,
Who decided to ride on a lamb,
He fell on the grass,
Hurt his ass,
And ended up inside a can.

Cat Bird

A cat and a bird in a chase,
The cat almost fell on her face,
The bird flew away,
To a far off beach bay,
And the cat started knitting with lace.

Poetry freeverse

The arrival

In bed I lie,
How cold this wind,
12 strikes the clock,
And so,
It begins.

The arrival of them,
The chill that they bring,
The fury inside,
That I,
Must condemn.

The rustle of leaves,
Disturbing a bird,
The shaking inside
That cannot,
Be heard.

In bed I lie,
Now blinded by dark,
The terror takes hold
As they,
Make their mark.

Poetry free verse

Now Quiet

Now quiet,
For there is no heart that beats but for fear.
In this room and up the stairs come those men with guns,
The children are frightened and so am I.

Together we leave forced by the solders onto the train,
We hope for nothing worse.

Now quiet,
For there is no mother that doesn’t cry,
For there is no father that doesn’t worry for his children.

Now quiet,
For there is no heart that beat but for fear.
We wait for those terrible men to come back.

When we arrive,
Others are there,
I hold the children close.

I can see them,
Row by row wearing the Star of David.
I can feel it, the hatred inside for those men.
Outside row by row wearing the Star of David.

Now quiet,
The men begin to shout,
Screaming in our ears,
Making our insides rattle.

Now quiet,
As we wear the Star of David.
